Mizuhiki is an ancient Japanese art form that uses a special cord made from strong Washi. Mizuhiki has 3 meanings 1. It is a proof that it is unopened (it is decorated on a monetary gift envelope) 2. A talisman 3. “Connecting people” because the more you pull it, the stronger it becomes. Nowadays, it seems that it is often used mainly for the third meaning.
