This style gained popularity after 1947, with exceptional works celebrated annually by the Prime Minister’s Award since 1954. This 近代創作こけし (modern creative Kokeshi) is called 願い Negai, meaning wish in Japanese. Created by the award-winning workshop 卯三郎 Usaburo, Negai captures a sense of joy and warmth.
