This intricate vintage wooden ornament from Japan’s Showa era showcases the Seven Lucky Gods (七福神 Shichifukujin) standing proudly on a 堤 Tsutsumi (traditional drum). The front of the Tsutsumi features a delicately carved 福 (Fuku), meaning “luck”, surrounded by a floral motif. Each tiny figure of the Shichifukujin – Fukurokuju, Daikokuten, Bishamonten, Benzaiten, Ebisu, Jurojin, and Hotei—is meticulously hand-painted, demonstrating the artist’s impressive craftsmanship in such a small scale. The Seven Lucky Gods are revered as bringers of happiness and good fortune, making this ornament a meaningful addition to any collection of Japanese art or lucky charms. It’s a rare find with beautiful symbolic value. This piece is part of the personal collection of j-okini’s owner’s grandfather (1919–1998), carefully preserved since the 1990s, and holds a deep connection to Japan’s rich cultural history.
